Things are going really well for Monica Brooks: she has a nice home, has been married for a few months, and loves the knitting shop she took over from her mother. Life takes an unexpected turn for Monica when her husband is given custody of his eight-year-old daughter, Clarissa, from a previous marriage. While Monica is usually levelheaded, she finds herself filled with doubts as she had not seen herself in the role of a full-time mother. The friends and family the couple has in the close-knit island community of Cedar Key grows closer as the surprises keep coming.
Ms. DuLong was kind enough to send an Advanced Reader's Copy of the book to me when I had seen via her newsletter that she had review copies available. That is not why I am rating this book 5 out of 5 lilies.
I am rating this book so because it is a wonderful read. The characters are quite believable and the type of people a reader would like to have as friends and neighbors. Living in Florida, it was also nice to read a book and have some familiarity with the places an author mentions. The storyline is the kind of storyline I like reading. It is a heartwarming one of friendships, relationships, love and how all of these are interconnected. I really enjoyed visiting Cedar Key and seeing how Monica, Adam, Clarissa, and their family and friends interacted, their highs and lows and their journey. I look forward to reading more of Ms. DuLong's books in the future.
