Review: I am of two minds about the book. On the one hand, I liked it. On the other hand, I also have some issues with it as well.

So....what did I like? I liked the concept. God trapped for decades in a cenote? Works for me. Only one person can free him? Okay. Travel to a Mayan jungle in order to do so? *insert cheering* (After all, I like the culture on which this is drawn.)

I also liked the, to me, slapstick comedy that is peppered throughout. Same for the characters, although I wasn't entirely sure about whether or not I would care for Votan/Guy Santiago at the beginning.

Now, for the other hand.

While, I liked the book overall, but especially the second half, I did have some issues. The major one for me is that - to me - Emma is forced, or maybe goaded would be a better word, into helping Guy. And Guy/Votan has a bit of an attitude about humans. Yes, there are reasons for both, and (without giving away too much), things progress toward a resolution for them. Even so, this was a bit of a sticking point for me for the first part of the book.

The second one is that, while I did like the comic aspects of the book, they got a little tiring for me after a while.

The issues I had with the book could very well have been the timing of when I read it, and I do look forward to reading more books in the series.
